We have the Emma Mattress here. It’s very successful in Europe, and they are bringing that over to the United States. It reminds me a great deal of the other bed-in-the-box bed mattress so I chose to jump in and evaluate this, and see how it compared to those other mattresses I’ve evaluated before. Let’s discuss the construction of the Emma Mattress starting with the cover here, great soft cover, has a great texture to it. It’s quite thin so it’s not actually going to impact the total feel of the mattress excessive. Moving onto the mattress now. We have 3 layers. We have a top Airgocell foam layer which is latex-like. It’s pretty springy, you can see it’s lovely soft. Can push my by far quite easily there. It’s also very breathable film overall. Then we have memory foam below that. You’ll see it’s that traditional slow-moving memory foam feel.
While foam mattresses in some cases tend to trap heat, the Emma Mattress has cooling functions that help it sleep cooler than some models on the market. The cover lets air flow into the mattress, which helps control its temperature. Airgocell polyfoam in the top layer of the mattress has an open-cell structure, so air can also penetrate the leading layer. This air flow can help heat dissipate away from the sleep surface area.

What’s interesting here is that you’ll see these channels right here. Below the shoulders of these channels, in the middle part of the mattress there aren’t these channels. There’s going to be more give up this part of the mattress. Beneath your shoulders if you’re on your side it’s going to give up a little bit more, offer you a little bit more pressure relief. We call that zoned building and construction. You get more assistance when you’re on your back, but a bit more pressure relief when you’re on your shoulders. This has very nice, unique building to this mattress. It’s going to be a really breathable mattress overall. You can see just how much room there is for air to flow through there. This leading layer right here is pretty breathable total, and it integrates latex-like and after that memory foam like qualities. You can have the springy-ness, not the feeling of getting stuck, but then also the pressure relief of memory foam. Really nice construction in general. Let’s talk about firmness and feel now. As far as firmness is worried it does have a bit of unique construction. It feels a bit softer when you’re on your side versus when you’re on your back or stomach. What are the specifications of the Emma original mattress?
As far as the feel is concerned, it integrates memory foam and latex-like qualities so there’s going to be some bounce to this mattress which you’ll see here. Underneath that there is memory foam, so you’re not going to get the sensation of getting stuck. Now I’m going to talk to you about how I feel about various sleeping positions.
That’s because I’m a bigger person, I’m pushing further into the mattress, feeling some more firmness than Joe did. Moving to my side, I would generally fret about feeling some firmness on my shoulders and my hips, however there is some zoning on this mattress.
